Do I have to subscribe?

The first section of the vocabulary, concerning the human body and related subjects, is available free of charge. You can see the first thirteen vocabulary lists, hear the sound bank and print off a printer-friendly version.

To access the whole online vocabulary, there is a small subscription fee. This will allow you to access all the vocabulary items, hear all the sound bank and use the search facilities to find the most common items of vocabulary in English. You will also be able to access the online shop where you can print off a paper copy of the text and, in due course, order the book and CD Rom.

Can I subscribe to the site if I only speak English?

The vocabulary is open to anyone who would like to improve their English or use it to help others to learn English. We welcome in particular subscribers from the teaching profession.

If you are teacher who would like to subscribe to the site but only have a limited command of another language, you may need help with the subscription page. This is because the website is aimed at speakers of other languages and the ancillary text is in their mother tongue.

Please click here to go to the subscription page as adapted for Japanese speakers. Once you have completed the subscription forms (you may need the help of a Japanese-speaking friend!), the online payment facilities are available in English.

What credit card can I use?
We currently accept Mastercard, Visa, Visa Delta, Visa Electron, Visa Purchasing, JCB, Solo and Switch and derivatives of those brands.
How long does my subscription last?
Once you have subscribed to the site, you can access all the vocabularies for a period of three months. We will automatically send you a reminder to renew your subscription at the end of the three month period.
What if I have forgotten my password?
Once you have subscribed to the website, you can access your password if you forget it through an automatic recall system. You can also change it easily if you have a problem remembering it.
How do I use the vocabulary?

The vocabulary can be used by English students at home in conjunction with any English language course. You can use the vocabulary to enhance your knowledge of most everyday subjects, from cooking to driving the car and from discussing your family and friends to discussing the universe.

The vocabulary can also be used in a classroom setting under the guidance of an appropriate teacher.

What if I cannot read the Japanese script?

The vocabulary has been adapted first for Japanese speakers and further versions will follow in due course, for example an English vocabulary for Chinese speakers, an English vocabulary for German speakers and so on.

If your computer cannot read a script such as Japanese, you may need to install an appropriate language pack on your computer/browser. Please contact the Operating System vendor for more information. For example, if you use Windows please contact Microsoft.
